Director’s Statement

瘾 /yǐn/, or addiction, in Chinese, means a bad habit that is almost like an illness. My parents fought intensively during my teenage years. I remember curling up in bed and listening to that terrifying sound of them fighting as a kid. I couldn’t explain the reason for that anger and pain in the family, so I learned to cover it up with loud bass and sorrowful tones, sadly that was how I got “addicted” to music. Being addicted to something sounds bad, but I think what brings you "bad" also brings you "good". Addiction I, was my first attempt as a storyteller/filmmaker. It was an experiment in marrying scripted filmmaking and documentary filmmaking. The film premiered on Youku Streaming in January 2016.
